Wired Different

A Neurodivergent Tale

Wired Different is a graphic novel series about neurodiversity, acceptance, stigma, and advocacy. The books take place in a post-human world populated by robots where psychology has been banned. Having been trained on human intelligence, human behavior, and human knowledge, these robots ended up with our human disorders as well. When a group of unlikely students inadvertently form an after-school neurodiversity club, they have to rediscover modern psychology to help young bots who feel isolated, stigmatized, and broken. Through their advocacy, more students learn to accept themselves, even while suspicious parents push back against student-led change.

Wired Different was born out of my own experiences and the stories of family and friends who struggled with ADHD, ASD, SPD, OCD, Tourette’s, and mental illness. The books also deal with suicide, grief, substance abuse, toxic masculinity, and the need for social understanding.

The initial series is a trilogy of graphic novels written as MG/YA bridge books. Each contains glossaries of psychology terms and suicide prevention materials.

Each book will also published with built-in AR features that will work from any smart phone, as well as a companion original soundtrack downloadable for free after purchase.
